MARGAO: Varca Saturday Bazar, an initiative of the village panchayat of Varca under Atmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goem was launched on Saturday opposite the Varca Church.

The Bazar will take place every Saturday between 3.30 pm and 7 pm, facilitating locals to showcase their products and in the process earn money by marketing their produce.

Launched and blessed by Varca Parish Priest, Fr Louis Alvares in the presence of village Sarpanch Charlton Lourenco and Panchayat members, the Saturday Bazar will showcase traditional food and other items.

Day one of the Bazar saw around 17 villagers showcasing their home made products, including pickles and food items.

Explaining the concept, Sarpanch Charlton said the Panchayat has taken the initiative to provide a marketing platform for the locals to showcase their talents. “The Panchayat will provide the stalls, including the tables, umbrellas and other items free of cost to the participants. They will not pay anything to the Panchayat. We want to encourage our locals to showcase their talent and also earn income by sale of the products”, he said.

While thanking the Parish Priest Fr Louis Alvares for supporting the initiative, the Sarpanch expects more and more locals to participate in the bazar with the home made products. “Day one evoked encouraging response the bazar. The Saturday Bazar will grow in strength in the coming days and months. We thought about the concept in times of Covid Pandemic, which will provide additional income to the participants”, he said, adding that the stalls will be allotted strictly to the local villagers.
