Threats to GF worker: Anwar Sheikh gets anticipatory bail

MARGAO
The South Goa Sessions Court has granted anticipatory bail to Anwar Sheikh alias Tiger Anwar in connection with a case of issuing threats to a supporter of Goa Forward party worker.

Fatorda police, however, said the accused has not reported to the police to complete the formalities.

The court had ordered the release of the accused in the event of the arrest upon executing a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with one surety of the like amount to the satisfaction of the Investigation Officer with conditions that the applicant shall report to the Investigating Officer as and when required for investigation, that the applicant shall not commit any similar or other offence and the applicant shall furnish to the Investigating Officer the proof of his residence.

While the Fatorda police had objected to the anticipatory bail plea by the accused on grounds that he is involved in several cases of the police stations at South Goa, the court observed that the police did not cite any instance whether the accused was convicted in any of the criminal records replied by the police.

“I am therefore of the view that the objections of the respondents that the application should be dismissed because of his antecedents cannot be upheld. He can however be put to terms as regards his conduct. In my view, this application cannot be rejected on the ground that the applicant is required to be interrogated to find out the motive. The applicant can be directed to remain present before the Investigating Officer if required for the purpose of investigation,” the court observed, while passing an order to release the accused in the event of his arrest.

Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak informed that the accused has not reported to the police station till date to give effect to the court order.
