Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday extended greetings to the people of Goa on the 61th anniversary of the State’s liberation. Goa was liberated from around 450-year-long Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961.Kejriwal tweeted on Sunday saying, "On the historic 61st liberation day, my best wishes to the people of Goa. Salute to all the people who made heroic sacrifice to liberate Goa from colonial tyranny. It's time to liberate Goa from corrupt politics".
Meanwhile, AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre paid homage to freedom fighters at Hutatma Smarak at Patradevi.
Mhambre said, "Goa liberated from the Portuguese rule on 19 December 1961. Many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to bring freedom to Goa".
He further said, "Even though Goa is celebrating its 60th year of liberation, Goa is still lagging behind in development. We need to do a lot of development work in the state".
"Goa will celebrate diamond jubilee in next 15 years. Therefore, we should all strive for a prosperous and powerful Goa in the next 15 years", he added.
In spite of completion of 60 years of liberation, Goa has failed to provide basic health facilities to the doorsteps of the people, said Mhambre and stressed the need of setting up health clinics in every ward.
Mhambre, on Sunday, also said that the stress due to the fast-paced life takes a lot of toll on people’s health and regular health check-ups were essential for all irrespective of age, gender, or occupation.
“As we celebrate 60 years of liberation, the Mapusa people are still clamoring for better healthcare. The North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa is overloaded. There are no facilities to conduct basic tests. Every ward needs a clinic and we should all strive to provide such facilities in the next 15 years,” Mhambre said.
The AAP State convenor was addressing a function while inaugurating the health camp organized for the people of Mapusa.
Mhambre along with Dr Amol Bharve of Barve’s Clinical Laboratory, Mukta Opticians, and Dr Pallavi Dhume of Dentzz organized a free medical check-up camp at Mapusa residency main hall, Mapusa.
According to Mhambre, people often forget to take care of their health owing to the fast-paced lives and hectic schedules.
“In many cases this may lead to people developing chronic heart diseases, cancer, mental health issues, diabetes, and other hormonal imbalances. Hence, regular health check-ups become essential for one and all irrespective of age, gender, or occupation,” he said.
“On the occasion of the 60th liberation year of Goa, we organised the medical camp to inspire people to take care of their health and implement necessary lifestyle changes in accordance to prevailing pandemic conditions to live healthier lives,” he added.
He said there was tremendous response to the health camp as hundreds of people attended the camp.
