While the PM Narendra Modi was attending a series of programmes in Panaji, the Congress this year organised the party's main Goa Liberation Day function at Pilar along with the St Andre Block Congress Committee at Pilar.The Congress leaders also unfurled the flag at the Panaji party office. President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Girish Chodankar while speaking in the function at Pilar said that BJP and RSS never participated in the liberation struggle of Goa and were mute spectators. However now they are trying to derive political gains on events, where they don't have a single per cent contribution.
"RSS and Jan Sangh were for the merger of Goa with Maharastra while the people of Goa decided to stay an independent state," Chodankar added.
AICC In-Charge, Goa Desk Dinesh Gundu Rao said that only Congress party has contribution for the freedom and development of the nation.
Senior Vice President of GPCC MK Shaik, Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, Antonio Alfonso, Mohan Dhond, Dilip Borkar, Victor Gonsalves spoke on the occasion.
The former Mayor and Congress leader Uday Madkaikar while speaking to media persons after the flag hoisting function at the Panaji Congress office admitted that in the present circumstances giving an assurance to move casinos out of River Mandovi will be an impractical one.
He said that we will put a point in our manifesto to implement a policy so that people will face no problem due to casinos, he added.
Madkaikar said that the present MLA Atanasio Monseratte has assured that if he comes to power he will shift casinos out of River Mandovi within 100 days. However he did not fulfil his promise as giving such a promise to remove casinos was impractical.
The government with its policy decisions has given licence to the casinos and now removing these casinos was impossible, he said.
