It has been almost a month since the sarpanch of Tivim panchayat was ousted in a no-confidence motion and yet, a new sarpanch is yet to be elected and this has led to growing speculation among locals that political pressure has been behind this delay.
Arjun Aroskar was ousted in a no-confidence motion by 6-0 votes on January 24 and the post has been vacant since then.
A special meeting was convened by the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) on February 18 to fill the post and a notice was issued regarding this on February 12 by the Director of Panchayats Siddhi Halarnkar.
But barely two days before the election process, the DoP issued another notice on February 16 postponing the date of election. The notice does not specify the reason for postponement.
