A tourist from Karnataka was found dead in a hotel room in Calangute, while his female companion remains in critical condition, in what police preliminarily suspect to be a case of suicide.
According to North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal, the deceased, identified as 45-year-old Mahesh Suntnure from Bidar-Karnataka, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan.
His companion, 25-year-old Sonali, also from Bidar, was found with a severe wrist injury and has been hospitalised in a critical condition.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the duo checked into the hotel on October 19 and were scheduled to check out on October 20. However, they extended their stay by one day. We were informed of the incident today (Monday),” Kaushal said.
Mahesh is survived by his wife and three children, while Sonali has reportedly been married for four years.
Police suspect an extra-marital affair but are investigating the matter and exploring all possible angles.
