Touts having free run in renewable energy dept: MLA

Alleges that officers demand cheques for subsidy

MAPUSA

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai charged that touts were having a free run in the department of the New and Renewable Energy as officials were demanding cheques for subsidy.

However, Minister New and Renewable Energy Ramkrishna (Sudhin) Dhavalikar denied the allegation but assured to inquire into it and if need be take action.

“There are touts in your department. Officers take cheques to give subsidy,” Sardessai alleged in his inimitable style, while discussing the issue of renewable energy in the House during the Question Hour.

Reacting to the charge as cool as a cucumber, Dhavalikar said he did not believe it but would definitely inquire into the matter.

“We will inquire into the charge. I don’t think it happens in my department. If it happens I will take action,” he assured the Fatorda MLA.

The Fatorda MLA slammed the government for withdrawing a scheme providing subsidy to electric vehicles (EV) within a short span of time.

He said in 2022, the minister had assured to clear all applications for EVs but that never happened.

“The subsidy scheme was notified in October 2021 just before the elections. It was notified for five years but after elections within a year the scheme was closed,” Sardessai said.
