The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday formed the mandatory Town Vending Committee (TVC) after taking into account some objections raised by some of the councillors.
Councillor Anand Bhaidkar pointed out that some of the vendors that are appointed on the street vendor association also possessed shops/stalls in the municipal market and therefore they cannot be defined as vendors.
He said Riyaz Narangi, Ujwala Langote and Shashikala Govekar who were members of the street vendor association had shops in the market and therefore not entitled to be on the committee as they cannot be called vendors.
MMC Chief Officer Amitesh Shirvoikar informed that the particular members had applied to be on the committee but agreed to inquire into the new revelation and replace them with other names.
Councillor Tarak Arolkar objected to the inclusion of Sudesh Tivrekar of Mapusa People’s Union in the NGO category as there were several allegations against the NGO.
The Chief Officer is the Chairperson of the TVC, which comprises members from street vendor association, market and trade association, NGO category, community based organisation, RWA category, members of the municipality, collector or his representative, chairperson or member of PDA, traffic and general police, one representative of nationalised bank and a medical officer.
