A holiday in Goa ended in tragedy for a family from Solapur-Maharashtra when a 54-year-old businessman drowned in the sea off Candolim on Monday.
The incident took place at about 8.30 am when Satish Uddhav Bhosale “ a well-known contractor and businessman in sand and construction materials from Solapur “ and his family had arrived in the State on May 28 and were staying at a hotel in Candolim.
On Monday morning, the Bhosale family had breakfast and then went to the beach for a walk.
Satish Bhosale and his 16-year-old daughter went for a swim, while the rest of the family stayed on the shore.
A big wave swept both of them into the sea and the daughter managed to swim ashore. When she noticed her father was not there, she raised an alarm to alert family members and lifeguards.
Lifeguards conducted a search operation and pulled Bhosale out of the water. He was rushed to the Candolim Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
On receiving information about the incident, Calangute police conducted an inquest and sent the body to the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim. After an autopsy in the afternoon, the body was handed over to the family.
Calangute police registered a case of unnatural death and PSI Sahil Vaingankar is investigating the case under the supervision of Calangute Police Inspector Laxi Amonkar.
