A truck driver was caught red-handed dumping debris in a field at Merces on Wednesday and was later handed to the Old Goa police.
Speaking to The Goan, Michael Dias said he was proceeding towards Panaji when he noticed the truck dumping debris in the field near the new court building.
“When I questioned the driver, he told me that the debris was from the Smart City works,” Dias stated, while adding that he then called up the Old Goa police, who attached the truck and arrested the driver.
“Around 12 truckloads of debris is dumped in the area,” Dias stated and questioned whether Merces is becoming a dumping ground as all and sundry are dumping debris in the village. He urged the panchayat authorities to maintain vigil in the village and ensure that dumping of debris is stopped.
