Mamlatdar Rahul Dessai has come under the scanner of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) with two First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against him for his alleged involvement in the land scam.
Dessai, accused of conniving with one of the main accused in the transfer of land ownership rights, is currently posted in Bardez.
A member of the SIT said that seaman Royson Rodrigues has confessed conniving with Dessai to illegally transfer ownership rights. The government officer has been booked based on the seaman’s interrogation and other documentary evidence.
While Rodrigues is booked in four land grab cases, Dessai’s alleged involvement has surfaced in two cases where the former is being probed. “Dessai will soon be summoned for interrogation. He will be allowed to present his side of the story with proof,” an officer said.
Dessai’s possible interrogation is likely to throw more light on the nexus between government officials and other individuals.
The SIT has already booked two employees from Archives Department, both of whom were arrested and later released on bail.
