SANGUEM
A number of residents in Uguem-Sanguem are puzzled after receiving notices from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for inquiry and statement with respect to the plots of land purchased by them from Sociadade Patriotica Dos Baldios Das Novas Conquistas Uguem in and around 2013.
The notices received by the villagers follows the recent complaint filed by Sanguem Mamlatdar before the SIT over the purported illegal sale of government land by Sociadade to the villagers.
Incidentally, the land in question and which the villagers had purchased had been in possession with Sociadade since Portuguese ruled Goa. However, the Government only recently acted on a 1966 Government notification and transfered some portion of land held by Sociadade in its name without sending any notices to Sociadade.
To make matters worse, the Mamlatdar of Sanguem recently filed a complaint before SIT and this has upset the villagers who otherwise had a peaceful living in the village.
