Armed with documents obtained from the Executive Engineer of the electricity department, Congress MLA, Carlos Ferreira said the underground cabling works for Aldona was approved after he moved the proposal and slammed the former BJP legislator Glen Ticlo for lying to the people of Aldona claiming that the proposal was moved by him.
Ferreira also said that it was not enough to make proposals but it has to be approved and executed for an MLA to take credit for work done.
“There was no proposal of Rs 120 crores by the ex-BJP MLA for underground cabling in Aldona. He lied about it. No proposal by him was carried forward during 2017 and 2022, and his proposal was rejected in September 2021. The fresh proposal was approved only after my demand in the assembly on July 13, 2022,” Ferreira said.
“You can't mislead people. I request Glen Ticlo when speaking publicly and accusing someone to first study the matter and make statements," he added.
The former Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo had recently claimed that he had moved a proposal for underground cabling in Aldona and accused the current Congress MLA for taking false credit.
The Congress MLA was addressing a news conference along with North Goa District Congress President, Virendra Shirodkar, Aldona Sarpanch, Ashwin D’Souza, NSUI chief, Naushad Chowdari and others in Mapusa.
Continuing, Ferreira said that following his recent letter to the Executive Engineer of the power department seeking details on the underground cabling project, he received replies stating that there was no proposal by Glen Ticlo.
“There was only a proposal and estimate of Rs 82 crores to convert existing 11kv feeders to underground cabling in Aldona, Pompurpa and Bastora sent in August 2019, but this was not sanctioned and the proposal was returned for rate revision in September 2021. Despite the proposal being not approved, the then MLA went ahead and told people in September 2021 that the project was approved," he said.
The Aldona MLA said that it was not enough to make proposals but it needs to be approved and executed.
“If not, the MLA has failed. Even if a proposal was made, approved and not executed it is a failure,” he said.
He said the former MLA was playing politics and trying to block development work in the constituency.
“Despite being a two-time MLA of the BJP you failed to get files passed. Now, you are trying to obstruct development works though your people and even trying to bypass me at the panchayat level. I am doing development for the people with no commission. If you try to block works it will be great injustice to the people of Aldona,” Ferreira said.
