Sachin Kurup, accused of drunk driving and killing a resort owner, was on Thursday sent to 14 days of judicial custody by the local court. The Anjuna police had produced him before the Court after his four days of police custody ended.
Arrested for the offense on Diwali, the 42-year-old was caught on CCTV cameras driving his SUV in a reckless and dangerous manner into the premises of La Maior Roma resort, resulting in the death of the resort owner Remedia Mary Albuquerque and injuring two other staff of the resort. He is booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The deceased’s family has alleged that the driver might have consumed some substances like drugs as he appeared dazed and refused to help in removing the vehicle under which the victim was trapped. The family also said that the witnesses tried to take the driver out of the vehicle but he refused to cooperate making it even more difficult to rescue her.
