Vascokars unhappy over absence of full-time MMC CO

VASCO

Several residents in the port town have expressed concerns over the absence of a full-time chief officer for Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).

While the previous chief officer Santosh Kundaikar had been on a short term at the MMC and went on a leave before finally being transferred as special acquisition officer, the recently appointed MMC Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat is also reported to have gone on leave for a month.

According to sources in MMC, the chief officer’s charge is with Agnelo Fernandes, chief officer of Margao Municipal Council.

"Unfortunately, this A-Class municipal council does not have a full-time chief officer causing people inconvenience,” Spokesperson for Niz Goenkar Revolution Front Chandrashekar Vasta told reporters.

“The city has become a garbage dump but there is no one to take care of these issues. People come by buses from different locations to find no one here in the council. It is sad that chief officers are changing in such short time period. The government must intervene and find a solution to this issue, " said Vasta.

Social worker Amindin Mullal said a lot of work was being held up in the absence of a full-time chief officer and requested the government to intervene and have a full-time chief officer for MMC.

"The chief officer should be for a continuous term. Without the chief officer, people cannot get documents like income certificate, etc. At a time when the council is dissolved, the chief officer should be present in the municipal council because of pending public works," said Mullal.
