Velim MLA Cruz Silva has urged the government to tone up the health care services by deploying medical staff such as doctor, nurses and essential personnel at the Cutbona fishing jetty to address the health needs of the community.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the Velim MLA has called for urgent action at the fishing jetty in view of the outbreak of dengue and cholera at Goa’s largest fishing hub.
He pointed out that the deployment of medical staff at the jetty is vital to prevent further loss of life and to manage the health concerns.
The Velim MLA has also called for the improvement of sanitation facilities at the Cutbona fishing jetty, saying the upgrading toilet facilities and ensuring regular maintenance is crucial for public health.
Silva has also taken up the long-pending issue of the mechanized boat owners, the construction of a training wall at the mouth of river Sal to help manage the flow and preventing erosion.
“Immediate intervention is crucial to prevent further loss of life and ensure a healthy and safe environment for all individuals relying on the Cutbona fishing jetty. I urge you to prioritize these actions and allocate necessary resources to address this urgent situation promptly. A proposed timeline for these actions would be immediate”, he said in his letter, saying he is willing to collaborate with the Chief Minister’s office and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of these measures.
“The current state of neglect at the jetty has led to a public health crisis, resulting in unnecessary loss of lives due to preventable diseases. It is imperative that swift and comprehensive measures are implemented to address the pressing issues affecting the community’s well-being”, he said, while urging the Chief Minister to remove the old scrap fishing vessels anchored at the jetty and also clear the old fishing nets and dingy boats from the jetty.
