Newly-elected Velim MLA Cruz Silva on Sunday disclosed plans to move an amendment to the Goa Panchayati Raj Act to strengthen the gram sabha institution and to allow the MLA and Zilla Panchayat members to participate in the gram sabha proceedings.
The MLA made his presence felt at the gram sabha of Sarzora village panchayat chaired by Sarpanch Wilson when he announced his plans to table an amendment to strengthen the gram sabhas.
A two-time former Sarpanch of Ambelim village panchayat, Cruz said the gram sabha as a Panchayati Raj institution plays an important role in the panchayat administration, while underscoring the need to strengthen the institution.
The MLA sought the cooperation and assistance of the villagers of Sarzora to usher in the development. The budget estimates for the financial year 2022-23 were also discussed.
