With the theme ‘Sustaining all life on Earth’ the Wildlife Week celebration began in Goa on October 2 and will continue till October 8. The State Forest department is organising various events and activities to spread the message of conservation and to create awareness among stakeholders, school and college students, as well as the public at large on the occasion of Wildlife Week 2020 in association with Morjim Sea Turtle Trust.
The weeklong event-chain kick-started with a bicycle rally in Panaji while various competitions, webinars and workshops on forest and wildlife topics will be held through the week. There would be a drawing competition with the theme “ Wildlife of Goa (kids up to 8), Save Wildlife “ Save Humanity (9-12 years), Forest and biodiversity (Differently abled children). There will be a ‘Build a nest’ competition (children up to 14) where the participants have to submit a 3-minute video on the preparation of a birdhouse. The photography contest is in the open category where ‘Shades of Goan Forest’ is the theme. There is an essay competition in English for children aged 11-16 on ‘Marine Ecosystem of Goa and its importance’. A quiz competition will be conducted online (age 13-18) and registration is on Google forms. The debate competition (age 15-18) will be on ‘Communities living in and around wildlife reserves and their participation in wildlife conservation’. A poster competition will also be held for children aged 5-12 years on ‘Stop pollution, save environment’
