Without tighter curbs, govt’s apathy for health exposed: MLA

Says ‘bhivpachi garaz na’ attitude inviting disaster

PORVORIM

Accusing the State government for exhibiting total apathy to public life and health, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte Goa’s Covid positivity rate is the third highest in the country but the government is still towing the ‘bhivpachi garaz na’ attitude and is inviting disaster.

“Goa is inching toward an alarming scenario of the second wave with 247 fresh Covid cases as on April 5, according to the bulletin released by the health department. Without tighter curbs, the State government has exhibited absolute apathy for public life and health,” said Khaunte.

“Goa’s Covid positivity rate is the third highest in the country, but our government is still towing the ‘Bhivpachi Garaz Na’ attitude and is inviting disaster. It is high time that the government comes out of the election mode and act urgently.”

The Porvorim MLA claimed that the government’s decision to avoid stricter Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the name of Tourism had exposed the government’s inefficiency in handling the Covid pandemic from day one.

He also ridiculed the government for its imposition of Section 144 in the State.

“Section 144 is for Covid control, irrespective of local citizens or tourists. Besides, the sanctity of Section 144 is under question when Chief Minister Pramod Sawant openly declares that it is not applicable to gatherings in private properties. Coronavirus does not differentiate between public and private properties.”

“It is ridiculous that a north Goa MLA of the ruling BJP celebrated his birthday recently throwing safety precautions to the winds,” he said.
