All Goa Fair Price Shops Association (AGFPSA) General Secretary Gandhi Henriques claimed they had not received payments for the free foodgrains distributed under the PMGKY for the last three years.
“Questions were raised in the assembly and we were given assurance that it would be paid,” he said.
Henriques told reporters that Fair Price Shops (FPSs) suffer handling costs.
“In every bag transported from Cortalim Godown to the FPS, there is at least two per cent shortage which was raised in the assembly,” said Henriques.
“All FPSs in Goa are suffering today and many of them are about to close down because this business is not viable, especially because the POS machine introduction has become very difficult to operate, with people leaving the shop because they cannot wait till the machine authenticates their card," said Gandhi.
