Blaming the Finance Department for delays in clearing road works files, road contractors have called for expediting the files so that the works can be taken up before the onset of monsoons.

They also demanded a single window system wherein the technical sanction, administrative approval and the expenditure sanction are given at one time to ensure time-bound work.

Claiming that hundreds of proposals are pending with the Finance Department, awaiting expenditure sanction, the contractors said they have no idea why these files are kept pending by the department.

“More often than not, the contractors are blamed for the delay in executing works after the floating of tender. The ground reality, however, shows that the files get stuck at the Finance Department at the time of expenditure sanction”, they said.

They pointed out that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had made available Rs 200 crore to the PWD to take up the road works, but work on the projects is yet to commence for want of sanction by the Finance Department. “We have already taken up the issue with the PWD Minister Digambar Kamat. We will raise the issue with Chief Minister at the meeting scheduled on Monday”, the contactors added.
