The state government will take a call on the proposal of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) to set up a film city at Loliem only after a consultant is appointed and submits its report on the project's feasibility, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said.
Sawant said, that the consultant will have to evaluate the project's feasibility first.
"We have begun the process to scout and acquire the land We will appoint a consultant for the project who will evaluate the project site and let us know if it is suitable for the film city,” the chief minister said while speaking to the media on the sidelines of a government event.
Sawant's statement comes in the backdrop of the Loliem Communidade communicating to the ESG that it is willing to provide its land (around 200-250 acres) on the Bhagwati plateau for the project.
Meanwhile, the State government has made major concessions for Goan film producers providing for lower fees to the extent of 60% of applicable levies, including taxes, for film shooting permissions.
Also, line producers who are registered on the books of the ESG will have to pay only 50% of the total fees applicable.
On Thursday, the Department of Information and Publicity notified the Goa (Regulation of Film Shooting) Rules, 2023 which has specified the procedures line producers have to follow to seek permission for shooting schedules at locales in Goa.
The rules also provide for local bodies to charge fees for shooting films in their jurisdiction.
