Rift among devotees? Second group finalises another site

PORVORIM

A division has emerged between the temple committee and a group of devotees over the location to reconstruct the demolished Dev Khapreshwar Temple in Porvorim.

While the temple committee has insisted that the temple must be rebuilt at the same location at Vodakadde, a group of devotees of Dev Khapreshwar are reported to have shortlisted a site near the Alcon showroom in Porvorim and construction of the temple is expected to begin immediately.

The group of devotees are reported to have also obtained the ‘Prasad’ at a temple in Socorro to rebuild a new Dev Khapreshwar temple and that, they have also identified the new location for the temple.

They demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte ensure the construction of the temple at this new location.

President of the Khapreshwar Temple Committee Kartik Kudnekar has, however, hit out at claims by some devotees that they had obtained the ‘Prasad’ at a temple in Socorro to rebuild the Dev Khapreshwar temple at a new site.

“I do not know those these devotees are and who had directed them to take ‘Prasad’. They have no right to meddle in the affairs of the Dev Khapreshwar temple. The existing committee will only decide about the construction of the temple,” said Kudnekar.
