PANAJI: Bondla Zoo has reopened for visitors after being closed for nearly two and a half months due to an avian influenza scare. The zoo, which was shut on April 1 following the sudden deaths of five animals, three civet cats and two jungle cats, resumed operations today after test reports from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, confirmed there was no presence of the virus.
“Following a precautionary closure, Bondla Zoo has reopened to visitors after test results from NIHSAD, Bhopal, confirmed that all samples were negative for avian influenza,” Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane confirmed.
Rane said the Forest Department acted promptly and responsibly in the face of the potential threat, ensuring that all necessary biosecurity protocols were strictly followed to safeguard both animals and visitors.
"I commend the efforts of all officials involved for their swift and transparent response. We are pleased to welcome visitors back to Bondla Zoo, a vibrant habitat and an important centre for conservation and environmental awareness in Goa," Rane said.
