Budget 2026-27 sets roadmap for innovation, inclusive growth and self-reliance: Goa CM

PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has welcomed the Union Budget 2026–27, describing it as a bold, reform-driven, and people-centric plan that prioritises long-term growth over populist measures.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the Viksit Bharat Budget reflects a philosophy of “people over populism” and will strengthen India’s economic competitiveness. "With strong fiscal prudence and a historic capital expenditure push, it will energise infrastructure, manufacturing, MSMEs, jobs, and accelerate India’s journey towards a globally competitive economy,” Sawant said.

He highlighted the Budget’s historic emphasis on capital expenditure, noting that it would energise infrastructure creation, logistics, railways, and urban growth. Sawant also welcomed the focus on manufacturing across seven strategic sectors, saying it would create jobs, boost MSMEs, and strengthen domestic value chains.

“The sharp focus on fiscal prudence alongside growth will strengthen trust in public investment and accelerate India’s transformation into a globally competitive economy,” he said.

The Chief Minister also praised initiatives aimed at technological self-reliance, including India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, full-stack design support, and domestic intellectual property development. “These measures mark a decisive step toward technological self-reliance,” he added.

On the healthcare front, Sawant welcomed the Biopharma Shakti initiative, the expansion of NIPERs, clinical trial networks, and medical tourism hubs, saying these steps would position India as a global hub for affordable, high-quality healthcare and biologic medicines.

He also noted the Budget’s attention to agricultural and coastal sectors, particularly coconut-growing regions and cashew cultivation. “Strengthening agro-processing, farmer incomes, and coastal economies is a major positive for states like Goa,” Sawant said.

Concluding his remarks, Sawant described the Budget as visionary and futuristic, setting a roadmap for innovation, employment, inclusive growth, and a resilient India.
