Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will confer degree certificates on 8,702 postgraduate students during its 25th Annual Convocation, on February 2 at the university campus, Jnana Sangama.

Twenty-five students will be honoured with gold medals, while 96 students will receive ranks for their academic excellence. Large number of Goan students pursuing their education in different colleges in Karnataka will also be getting their degrees, PG degrees, etc.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, VTU Vice-Chancellor Dr S Vidyashankar said the Governor of Karnataka, Thawar Chand Gehlot, will preside over the convocation. Rear Admiral Vikram Menon, Flag Officer Commanding of the Karnataka Naval Base, will be the chief guest. Karnataka Higher Education Minister and Pro-Chancellor of VTU, Dr M C Sudhakar, will also be present on the occasion.

“Out of 9,540 students from various postgraduate programmes including MBA, MCA, M Tech, Ph D, etc, 8,702 students have successfully qualified for the award of degrees, which is an impressive pass percentage of 91.21. Like recent years, girls have outperformed boys.

The first part of the 25th convocation was held in July for undergraduate students, the second part has been exclusively organised for postgraduate students.

“VTU ensures that degree certificates are issued immediately after the completion of studies so that students do not face delays in pursuing higher education or employment opportunities,” he said.

Among the eligible graduates, 4,928 are MBA students, 2,960 MCA students, 718 M Tech students, 59 M Arch students, 21 M Plan students and 16 M Sc students.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced the launch of the E-Vidyarthi Mitra Portal, a new student grievance redressal initiative wherein students can log in using their USN and confidentially submit all their academics related complaints. “I will personally review the grievances to ensure prompt solutions,” he said.
