A statement made by our Home Minister Amit Shah ,"In this country , those who speak English will soon be ashamed the creation of such a society is not far away. The languages of our country are jewels of our culture. Without our languages, we cease to be truly Indians." We need to introspect whether the statement is ethically or morally correct since English is a global language understood world over irrespective of its colonial hangover. Being proud of our mother tongues doesn't mean we villianise English. The fact is that India doesn't need less English but what we need is multilingual approach. Knowing English doesn't make one less Indian it makes him /her connect to the globalized world. India is multilingual and should remain so. We are dependent on English as one cannot avoid it. It's almost an international language where most leaders converse in, also called a link language. We shouldn't forget that languages are tools of communication and connect with communities and also promote peace world over. The more number of languages one knows, the better. Instead of making such vague comments our political leaders should not send their children to study abroad.
