In the last few days, there was an attack by some builder from North India on a prominent Colva fishermen from 3rd Ward Colva, shockingly in the presence of a Colva police inspector. This was apparently related to the victim who is affected/landlocked by a villa project of North Indian builder(s) of 10 villas and about 12 swimming pools; for which numerous residents (including fishermen) filed objections, as the controversial project was coming up in part CRZ area, fisherman ward and also had numerous other violations including illegal bore wells. I think the Colvenkars must actually question the Colva Panchayat and particularly the Sarpanch and local panchas as to how they have given permissions to this water guzzling project despite so many violations by the builder. The Colva Panchayat clearly has the power to block the permissions but they simply pass on the buck to the Town and Country planning dept ( TCP) which on giving permissions clearly informs the Colva Panchayat, to check local resources /water, etc before issuing permission. It’s time Colvenkars question their panchas how they allowed project to proceed.
