Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is likely to present the Goa State Budget for 2026–27 in February, ahead of the Panaji City Corporation and municipal elections scheduled for March-April.
Sawant on Friday chaired a crucial review meeting to assess the implementation of the Budget 2025–26 and the status of assurances made by the government. During review it was brought out that action has already started on 99.3 per cent of the budget assurances.
“Almost 77 per cent of the assurances will be implemented in this financial year itself and rest in the next year,” Sawant said while directing all Secretaries and HoDs to fast track implementation of the budget assurance as well as assurances given on the floor of the House by the government.
Sawant informed that as on November, 2025 end, the State government has spent 57 per cent of its budgeted expenditure with the anticipated utilization of around 95 per cent by the end of this financial year.
“The borrowings of the State from Open Market have been sustainable as on date ie Rs 1,300 crore out of Rs 3,200 crore allowed by Government of India,” he said.
Sources present at the meeting said the Chief Minister asked all Secretaries and Heads of Departments to outline and submit proposals for inclusion in the State Budget 2026–27.
“The Budget is expected to be presented in February, before the election code of conduct comes into force in view of the Panaji City Corporation and municipal polls,” a source said.
While elections to the Panaji City Corporation are likely to be held in March, polls to 13 municipalities across the State are due in April.
Meanwhile, Sawant also chaired a separate review meeting to assess the progress of key infrastructure projects amounting to Rs 512.91 crore, funded by the Centre under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Chief Minister reviewed the overall implementation status, utilisation of funds and project timelines. He stressed the need for stronger inter-departmental coordination so that the intended benefits reach the people of Goa at the earliest.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to development, Sawant said the State remains focused on fast-tracking projects that contribute to economic growth, improved public infrastructure and a better quality of life for citizens, the CMO added.
