Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday announced that remuneration of doctors and GARD doctors serving on contract at GMC has been enhanced, along with a decision to provide a 5% annual increment going forward.
He said the decision will come into effect from January 1 this year.
Taking to social media, Rane said: "This step reflects our commitment to recognising the tireless service, dedication and sacrifice of our doctors, who form the backbone of Goa’s healthcare system and remain at the forefront of patient care every single day."
"Grateful to Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant ji for his constant guidance and support in strengthening our healthcare ecosystem and ensuring that those who serve society are valued and encouraged," he added.
The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) had been representing with the government for upward revision of pay scales for postgraduate medical professionals at the GMC for over a year.
Recently, in October last year, a GARD delegation had met Sawant and highlighted that the stipend for resident doctors at GMC has remained unchanged since 2015, despite the rising inflation and increasing workloads.
The delegation had told Sawant that their counterparts in other States get substantially higher stipends, making Goa’s stagnant pay structure a matter of growing discontent in their fraternity.
