PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Monday said that the much-awaited Dabolim flyover project is likely to be completed by December, following a joint review meeting with Minister Mauvin Godinho, held in the constituency to address long-pending infrastructure and road-related issues.
Kamat was speaking to reporters after the meeting with Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, in the presence of newly elected Zilla Panchayat member Sunil Gawas and other local representatives.
The discussions focused on ongoing and proposed PWD works in Dabolim, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) flyover project, and road issues falling under ZP jurisdiction in Sancoale.
Kamat said he had visited Dabolim at the request of Minister Mauvin Godinho to personally review several pending works.
“Many projects have already started, while estimates for some others have been prepared. I have assured that approvals will be granted within eight days so that those works can also commence without delay,” he said.
Referring to the Dabolim flyover, the PWD minister said detailed discussions were held with NHAI officials and the contractor.
“Several practical solutions to public inconvenience have been worked out. The contractor has been directed to complete the project by December and has been given a clear target. With the road diversions now in place, the contractor has informed us that work can proceed smoothly and that a major stretch can be completed by May,” Kamat said.
Godinho said residents had been facing difficulties due to road-related issues and ongoing works.
“We had earlier discussed these problems with the PWD minister and planned diversions to allow the contractor to speed up the flyover work. Despite several constraints, service roads on both sides of the project were made possible following the PWD minister’s directions,” he said.
Godinho said the flyover is crucial to decongest traffic in the area and stressed that diversions were allowed with a clear condition.
“We have told the contractor in the presence of the PWD minister that the diversions are temporary and the work on this stretch must be completed by December so that people are not inconvenienced for a long period of time. The work is progressing in full swing and we are confident the project will be completed within the stipulated time,” he said.
He added that Kamat has assured that road works in Sancoale and Zuarinagar will be taken up on priority and completed within fixed timelines.
