MARGAO
Days after the Postal Department shut down the Aquem Sub-Post Office, there’s growing demand from many quarters to the Postal authorities to reconsider and review the decision in the interests of the people.

Joining the chorus of opposition to the move to shut down the Aquem Sub-Post Office, GOACAN has dashed off a letter to the Senior Superintendent of Posts, Goa Division with a plea to take an urgent review of decision to shut Aquem Sub-Post Office in Margao, Salcete taluka, South Goa District.

Expressing shock after reading the news items in The Goan over the shutting down of the Aquem Sub-Post Office, GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins has lamented that the decision to shut the Sub-Post Office has been taken unilaterally without any consultation with the stakeholders, as no discussion was taken up in the Post Forum of the Head Post Office, Margao.

“The news reports clearly highlight in detail the problems that consumers will face now that the Aquem Sub-Post Office is shut down and we do not wish to repeat the same. The closure of the Sub-Post Office will definitely affect senior citizens, housewives, students and persons with disabilities as they will be forced to travel  to avail of services of the Postal Department to the Head Post Office Margao which is not only overcrowded but also short staffed,” he said.

Martins has urged the Postal authorities to urgently review the decision to shut the Aquem Sub-Post Office and protect the interests of the consumers of the postal services.

Copies of the GOACAN letter have been sent to the Chief Secretary, Government of Goa, South Goa Collector & District Magistrate, the Chief Postmaster General (Maharashtra Circle), Mumbai, Postmaster General (PMG), Goa Region, Panaji and Director Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Panaji.
