Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has urged the Chairman of the Business Advisory Committee to allocate sufficient time in the forthcoming session for a meaningful discussion on key concerns that affect Goa’s environment, public safety, infrastructure and sustainable development.
He said the Business Advisory Committee plays a vital role in determining the agenda and duration of the upcoming session, ensuring that the House addresses matters of public importance effectively.
Raising issues concerning environmental protection and pollution control, the Benaulim MLA has called for an urgent debate on the risks posed by projects like the proposed Sagarmala development in Betul, potential coal handling, and inadequacies in sewage treatment plants, such as in Colva and Navelim, which threaten our rivers, agriculture, and public health.
On the law and order and public safety, the MLA pointed out the alarming rise in violent crimes, gang activities, and the proliferation of illegal operations demand immediate attention, including measures for enhanced policing, CCTV coverage, and stricter enforcement.
Calling for sustainable tourism and infrastructure, Viegas said, “With growing concerns over over-tourism, unregulated nightlife, and strain on resources, the House must discuss policies for regenerative tourism, carrying capacity studies, and balanced development that preserve Goa’s unique identity and ecology.”
