Margao fire brigade rushed to Davorlim on Tuesday evening after a shop which stacked items such as paint, plaster of Paris, besides furniture was engulfed in a major fire.
The residential apartment on the first floor of the building was also partially affected by the fire. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening after the fire services received a call stating that the smoke is billowing from a closed shop.
The Margao fire brigade rushed to the spot, and managed to reach there despite a narrow road leading to the site.
Fire Officer Gill D’Souza informed that items such as paint, PoP, besides furniture was stored inside the shop. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Gill said the fire personnel later entered the residential apartment on the first floor and removed the LPG cylinders as precautionary measures since the fire from the ground floor spread to the apartment.
The loss of property on account of the fire is being ascertained.
Former Davorlim Sarpanch and panch member Saish Rajadyax told the media that the apartment owner had just stored the items in the shop as his apartment was under renovation. He complimented the fire personnel and the local residents for their help and assistance in bringing the fire under control.
Earlier in the day, the Margao fire brigade rushed to Betalbatim to attend to dry grass fire.
