Passengers of a Kadamba Transport Corporation bus had a narrow escape on Thursday evening after steel TMT bars from the bridge-pillar construction site suddenly fell onto the moving vehicle's roof along the Dabolim road.
The incident occurred as the bus was passing the construction zone when a bundle of TMT bars slipped from the structure. The bars landed heavily on the roof, denting it and causing minor damage, sparking brief panic among passengers.
According to sources, the bus was en route from Vasco to the Verna side along the Dabolim stretch. The driver immediately slowed down and pulled over to assess the situation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to passengers or staff.
Locals have highlighted lapses in safety precautions at the site and have demanded that the contractor enforce strict safety measures, including securing materials and installing nets to prevent such incidents.
The incident has also raised concerns among regular commuters along the busy route, with many urging authorities to ensure stringent safety protocols at all infrastructure project sites to avert potentially serious accidents.
