Police investigations into the murder of Rajesh Shetkar at Cunchelim-Mapusa on Monday have revealed that Shetkar may have been murdered by a friend in revenge for having disclosed his name in a theft case last month.

According to sources, Mapusa police had arrested Rajesh Shetkar on the night of October 13 on connection with the theft of a two-wheeler parked near Hotel Satyaheera.

He told police at the time that the two-wheeler did not have petrol and he was pushing the vehicle to a petrol pump, but police noticed that Shetkar had no keys of the vehicle.

A few days after the arrest, Shetkar reportedly told police that Salim Nadaf had told him to take the two-wheeler.

The police later detained Nadaf but released him as he wasn't seen in CCTV footage nor could they could find any other evidence against him.

However, Nadaf was upset that Shetkar had revealed his name to the police and had allegedly told some close friends that he would kill Shetkar.

After learning that Shetkar was released from custody on November 21, Nadaf took him to a party and allegedly murdered him with the help of another accused, Rupesh Mahale, before the body was set ablaze.

According to sources, Nadaf has been accused in about four cases at the Mapusa police station since 2015.

Both accused have been sent to seven days in custody, as police investigations are in progress.
