The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) arrested a food delivery agent for allegedly possessing and peddling drugs. The accused, identified as Rahul Uppaldinni from Vasco and working as a Swiggy delivery agent, was arrested during a late-night raid at Sancoale.
The ANC said that the 33-year-old was arrested while attempting to supply the contraband disguised as a food delivery.
"We received information that ganja was being supplied under the guise of food deliveries, particularly to youth. Based on technical and human intelligence, a trap was laid and Uppaldinni was caught in possession of ganja worth Rs 22,600," the ANC officials said adding that the raid was conducted under the supervision of DySP ANC Nerlon Albuquerque and closely monitored by SP ANC Sunita Sawant.
The accused's two wheeler and mobile phone has also been seized while the local Court has remanded him to five days of police custody.
Reacting to the arrest, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said he warned about unregulated food delivery agents during discussion in the recently held monsoon session of the legislative assembly.
"Drugs Tumchya Dari! When drugs get delivered faster than justice, what does it say about Goa’s Home Department? On August 4 in the Assembly, I warned about unregulated delivery operations by Zomato and Swiggy, and personal vehicles with oversized boxes being unsafe. I demand the government at least act now to protect Goemkars," Sardesai said on his social media post.
