The government has informed the High Court that steps are being taken to acquire the unused land next to the South Goa District Court building to provide parking space after the new Margao Civil and Criminal Court building is inaugurated.

The government further said that the land acquisition is under active consideration and assured that necessary action will be taken with the involvement of the Public Works Department and the Law and Judiciary Department. The government lawyer told the Court that a progress report will be filed within four weeks. The matter will be heard again on September 15.

Meanwhile, the South Goa Advocates Association has repeated its demand that the government should allot part of the adjoining SGPDA property for parking space for lawyers and litigants. Association president Adv. Prasad Naik said the group had earlier requested the SGPDA to provide parking at the PDA grounds in front of the court. “We repeat our demand for parking at the SGPDA grounds, as the government’s land acquisition process will take time,” he said.
