Fire and emergency service officials said that there were nocasualties although the fire engulfed around 40 out of 75 hutments in the heartof the city. The migrant labourers who were engaged on a construction site werestaying in these shanties.
The incident happened at 11.40 in the afternoon when theoccupants of the huts were out on the job.
“We are yet to ascertain the exact reason of the blaze,” asenior fire and emergency services official said, adding that there areelectricity lines running through the hutments.
The official said that it took almost one and half hour tocontrol the fire with more than 30 fire fighters engaged on duty.
Five fire tenders were used to control the fire, which tookan ugly turn after LPG cylinders in one of the hut blasted.
