The state of Goa finally managed to penetrate into theAnjuna fortress and clamp down on blatant irregularities into one of thestates’ most controversial shacks, Curlies. The Anjuna police, which has turneda blind eye to the activities at Curlies, was also a target of SP Vijay Singh,the first such initiative of an uniformed police force
It started off with bouncers at the shack unwittinglybarring entry to North Goa Superintendent of Police, Vijay Singh, on a mission
The North Goa SP has admitted, in a police-public meetingheld in Anjuna village on November 23, 2012, that the controversial policestation of Anjuna has miserably failed to curb drug menace in the village whichis highly inhabited by foreign tourists.
“I will say here that Anjuna police has miserably failed incurbing the drug menace in this village,” SP Singh said while addressing thelocals gathered for the meeting.
He added that he will be harsh on the drug trade in theentire coastal belt of the State.
The meeting on October 22 was the outcome of the series ofcomplaints filed by locals against rave parties and playing of loud musicbeyond permitted hours.
Villagers filed complaints against the Curlies shack, UV barand Hippies restaurant for freely organizing late night parties (“Raveparties”) and playing loud music disturbing and polluting the entire coastalvillage.
A copy of the complaint was also received by chiefminister’s office and other 15 authorities to look into the matter and stop theharassment, nuisance, mischief, danger and illegalities attached to the latenight parties.
The complaint shocked SP, Vijay Singh who was also told thatthe Curlies shack blocked public access from the beach side by putting nets inthe night time.
It was then that the SP personally visited the Curlies shackin civil dress and made his entry into the shack from beach front. He wasstopped by the bouncers present there. He then called the Anjuna police force and arrested Edwin Nunes, the ownerof the Curlies shack who was also questioned by the CBI in the controversialBritish teenager Scarlet Eden’s death case.
“The pounding musicsystem on the beach is the main attraction of the rave night parties here,today the nature of these rave parties has changed with overindulgence intodrugs,” locals said.
