A committee formed by government is to meet all truckers ownersin December to assess the actual loss to truckers across state following theclosure of mines.
It is more than a month since the CM announced the formationof a committee of MLA’s to study the effect of the closure of mines on variousstakeholders in the state. The committeewas formed under the chairman of Industry Minister Mahadev Naik along withother MLA’S of mining affected areas. OnWednesday, the committee meet for thefirst time but Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Thivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar were notpresent.
Speaking to The Goan, secretary of the committee andSanquelim MLA Pramod Sawant said “ Under the chairmanship of Industry Ministerfirst meeting was held where we have decided to give more time to truckers asout of 22000 only a few of them have registered with the GEL”
He further said “ The committee will study the impact of theclosure of mining on immediate dependent like mines worker whether contract orregular. Department has no data of workers employed with mines hence we areasking all workers to register themselves”.
