The GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar, reacting to reportsabout party MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco writing to the CEC to stop leaserenewals and transportation of ore, said that the MLA has breached disciplineby not taking the party into confidence. He told The Goan in Jaipur during theAICC meet in the pink city last week, “I am very surprised. He had absolutelyno sanction from the party to do this. This is a breach. As a responsiblemember of the CLP, he should have raised it with the CLP. We can’t haveindividual stands here.”
Asked about his own view on whether ore from other statesshould be transported Shirodkar said “If it is legal and it is a genuineeconomic activity, then why not? Let me examine his letter and then we willcall him to come and explain. Disciplinary action will be considered afterascertaining all facts.”
In keeping with the sense of the occasion (the AICC meet),Shirodkar elaborated, “The AICC has re-emphasised the need of party disciplineand this no better time to stress that no party functionary can take actionswithout the partys sanction. Every action of an MLA ,elected from the party,cannot be independent of the party line.”
Meanwhile former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, (also inJaipur) aware of Reginaldo’s letter to the CEC said that even in the past he had questioned Reginaldo about his actionslike telling the press that Congress leaders had indulged in corruption duringthe de-notification of land ay Dabolim(Bernard Costas). “He shouldn’t do such things”, Kamat said.
