The mysterious death of Ugem Sarpanch, Dashrath Gaonkar wasshocking to say the least, but more than that, his death has left manyunanswered questions.
Sanguem police station in-charge Devendra Gad told The Goanthat the case is still registered as unnatural death.
“We have not yet received a complaint from any of the kin ofthe deceased suspecting foul play. So as of now it’s a case of unnaturaldeath,” Gad said.
He further disclosed that the post mortem report has notraised any suspicion on the death so that we can say that it is a murder, “Postmortem report is very clear that it’s a case of hanging,” Gad said.
A cloud of suspicion remains, as locals and eye witnesseswho were present during the panchanama have raised doubts over the sarpanch’sdeath.
Local MLA, Subhash Faldesai claims that the sarpanch’s deathwas a case of suicide but locals are not ready to buy that.
Those who have seen the body before it was brought down fromthe tree have told The Goan that under no circumstances it appeared as suicide.
Villagers have informed that even the T shirt which he waswearing was soiled with mud and his legs were almost touching the ground. Theyhave also said that even the ground below his legs was clean showing no signsof struggle.
The place where the body was found, after a week and after aseries of search operation held by police, is just 500 meters away from wherehe was last seen. Moreover the same place was searched twice in a week but thebody wasn’t there then, locals informed.
Police are reluctant to investigate further on thesarpanch’s death, as none of the family members and the local MLA has comeforward with a request.
Local MLA, Subhash Faldesai is on record saying thatDashrath Gaonkar was under tension, but failed to disclose what tension it was.
Next, if it was a death due to suicide then what led him tocommit suicide and if it was a murder then who are his foes? All thesequestions demand an answer.
Only a thorough investigation will lead to the truth localssaid and have demanded a comprehensive probe in the sarpanch’s death.
Dashrath Gaonkar sarpanch of Ugem village panchayat wasmissing since October 20 and his body was found hanging from a mango tree onOctober 27 in a decomposed state.
Sources said that after unsuccessful attempts to trace thesarpanch, an astrologer’s help was sought who finally led the police to thesarpanch’s body.
