On Dec 12, whilst patrolling off Goa, at about 1153 hrs, INSKondul received a distress call from a fishing boat in position 1455N 07335E onchannel 16. The fishing boat, Vijovin, (Registration No. TN2/FV/00381/07)reported uncontrollable flooding in her engine room with the engine completelyimmersed and the boat in imminent danger of sinking. In response to the call, the ship proceededto locate the distressed fishing boat.
The ship arrived near distressed boat at 1228 hrs andimmediately lowered its boat with the ship’s damage control party along with theEngineer Officer to render assistance. The engine room was completely floodedand the boat was sinking gradually. However, the rescue personnel providedprompt assistance in not only salvaging the boat but ensuring that it was towedback to harbour safely. The fishermen were joyous on return to Goa harbour andthanked the Indian Navy for their timely assistance.
