Six MLAs from theruling BJP government on January 25 extended full support to the people, whoare protesting under the aegis of Goa Mining People’s Front at Azad Maidan inPanjim.
Their protest hasentered the 11th day.
GMPF has beendemanding resumption of legal mining in the State, which is presently suspendedby the Supreme Court.
The six MLAs --Ganesh Gaonkar, Nilesh Cabral, Pramod Sawant, Subhas Phaldessai, Anand Shet andKiran Kandolkar -- met the protestors at noon on Friday and assured them theirfull support.
The MLAs alsoplaced some documents before the GMPF and alleged that a Congress lobby underthe leadership of the Curtorim MLA was trying to worsen the mining situation inthe State to defame the present BJP-led government.
The MLAs allegedthat the central agencies responded in a suspicious manner, as ReginaldLourenco had written a letter to CEC on February 16 and the CEC reply came thevery next day.
“Within four daysafter that some environmentalists filed a petition before the Apex court whichproves that they are working in tandem with one motto -- to destabilize the BJPgovernment and to harass the people in the State,” the MLAs said.
“They met us andexpressed their support to us. But we don’t want to be part of any politicalblame game,” said Subhas Naik, convenor of GMPF.
We want legalmining to resume with no further delay as the people in the state is suffering dueto the ban on mining. We will continue protest till our demands are not met, theGMPF convenor told The Goan.
