All three police personnel tainted by the sex scandal havebeen suspended from service. SP GRP Shekhar Prabhudesai confirmed that headconstables Waman Naik, Santosh Vengurlekar and police constable Vijay Gaikwadwere suspended with immediate effect.
The three police men’s names came to light during the courseof the investigation into the nexus between police, pimps and prostitutes.Following an identification parade on Wednesday, the 23 year old girl from Jharkhand identified the two policemen of the Calangutepolice station. Both were transferred immediately to GRP on Wednesday.
Crime branch lady police inspector Sunita Sawant wasinvestigating the case. Sources in the crime branch revealed that there was apossibility of more names being revealed during the investigation. Crime branchfiled a FIR against head constable Waman Naik and other police personnel’s fromCalangute, Mapusa and Bicholim police station. In an inquiry of the SDM, twovictims rescued during a raid to smash the flesh trade confessed that policepersonnel’s had been exploiting them and even demanding protection money.
In another move crime branch on Thursday opposed theanticipatory bail plea in the lower court at Mapusa, applicants lawyer GopalKanerkar pleaded for more time to file his reply. The next hearing is scheduledon December 10, 2012.
