Mumbaikar’s hearts bleed for boy jailed in Pak

Ahmednagarresident Bhanudas Karale, who had been languishing in Pakistani jail wasreleased last month, but a Mumbai boy Bhavesh Kumar has been in a Lahoreprison for the past seven years and his family is waiting his return. LikeKarale, he too had landed in Pakistan in similar circumstances.

Lastweek, Vile Parle MLA Krishna Hegde (Congress) raised issue of Bhavesh Kumar whohas been detained in Kot Lakpath Jail in Lahore “ in the MaharashtraLegislative Assembly.

Memberof Parliament Priya Dutt and MLA Krishna Hegde are going all out to expeditethe release of Bhavesh Kumar a resident of Vile Parle. He used to work as asoftware engineer.

"TheIndian High Commission is working on the case. Bhavesh Kumar's name was in thelist of 183 prisoners who were to be released by Pakistan in Jan 2012. Whilethe others were released two of the names including that of Bhavesh Kumar wereheld back by Pakistan," said Hegde.

Explainingthe circumstances how Bhavesh Kumar reached Pakistan, he said: “Seven yearsback, in a state of depression Bhavesh Kumar took a train from Mumbai toAmritsar and somehow managed to board the high security Samjautha Express, hewas then detained by the Pakistani authorities as he was without visa anddocuments and is lodged in a prison in Lahore-Pakistan since then.

Hegdeasked the Speaker to send the resolution on behalf of all the Members of theLegislative Assembly to the External Affairs Minister S M Krishna to expeditethe early release of Bhavesh Kumar.

MumbaiMP Priya Dutt and Hegde had earlier written to External Affairs minister S MKrishna and Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur regarding therelease of Bhavesh Kumar and had personally met them in this connection andhanded them the relevant documents. 

Peace-activistJatin Desai, who is aware of the case and is, making efforts to secure therelease of the boy, said that it is a very sad case of an innocent boylanguishing in jail.
