Ministers and MLAs were among the hundreds of people who visited Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik’s residence at Sao Pedro, Old Goa on Thursday to pay their last respects to his wife, Vijaya Naik, who lost her life in an accident in Karnataka.
Prominent among those who paid their respect included Health Minister, Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo, Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte, St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, former MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, BJP leaders Anil Hoble, Govind Parvatkar, Utpal Parrikar and others.
The mortal remains of Naik arrived at 9.30 am and was kept outside the residence so that the public could pay their last respects.
After the public had paid their last respect, the remains were taken to her native village of Adpai-Ponda for the last rites.
The minister’s three sons, Siddesh, Saish and Yogesh, and other family members were present to accept the condolences offered by the public.
Meanwhile, the youngest son, Yogesh, was unable to bear the loss as he fainted while having a look at the mortal remains of his mother. Later, friends and relatives took Yogesh for medical treatment.
