Every year, whenever there is a prediction of heavy rain the State government declares a holiday for schools, as it happened once last week. And on Monday (July 15) even students and staff of schools up to XII standard were given a holiday. This is for the safety of the students and to set parents’ mind at ease. The government also needs to consider the students and staff of the colleges and the Goa University. Why this step-motherly treatment for college and university people, by making them attend classes in bad weather? They too have to travel in the torrential rains and under bad roads and transport conditions and their families would be a worried lot till they safely reach home. There cannot be two sets of rules for different educational institutions.
