Dept to tread cautiously on clearing overhead cables - The Goan Everyday - November 22, 2025. Overhead cables of Cable TV and Internet service providers, hanging haphazardly over electric poles and on trees, are indeed a gory sight. It’s the same in Mumbai as well.
Often, one will find old, obsolete, used, discontinued, unwanted cables just thrown on the footpaths and roads, which pose the risk of passers-by getting entangled and tripping, leading to serious injuries. So, it’s good that the Goa Electricity Department is finally set to take action.
In fact, these cables should have been regulated from the start; however, better late than never. Of course, the authorities need to exercise caution so as not to disturb the network. The authorities need to provide ducts to facilitate the use of such cables.
